Lock Replacement

Replacing worn, damaged or unsuitable locks with a proper fit.

01

The problem

A damaged, outdated or unaccounted-for lock may need replacing. The right replacement must fit the door, the existing cut-outs and the way you use it.

02

When you might need it

  • —Lock damaged or forced
  • —Keys lost or not all returned
  • —Moving into a new property

03

What to tell us

  • —Door type and material
  • —Photo of the current lock, both sides
  • —How many doors are involved

04

What to expect

Send an enquiry or call. We will discuss suitable options and what is involved before any work is arranged.

05

Worth knowing

Door thickness, backset and existing holes affect which locks fit. Rental properties may need owner or agent approval.

More about this service

01

Fit, function and existing hardware

The appearance of a handle does not tell you whether a replacement fits. Door thickness, material, backset, hole positions and the existing strike plate all matter. Hardware intended for one type of door may require different preparation on another.

Explain how the door should work from the inside and outside, who needs keys and whether there is a separate security screen. If several doors are involved, clarify whether you want to discuss their access arrangements together. Compatibility needs to be checked rather than assumed from a product photo.

  • Photos of the door hardware, inside and outside.
  • Visible brand or model information.
  • Number of affected doors.
  • Whether the issue is damage, wear or uncertainty over keys.

02

A working lock can still need an access review

Changing occupants or losing keys raises a different question from repairing a fault. Explain what you know about existing key holders. Rekeying describes changing how a compatible cylinder responds to keys, while replacement changes hardware; neither should be assumed suitable before checking the lock.

For a rental, workplace or managed property, establish approval requirements before agreeing to a change. Ask what the agreed work includes and how existing keys will be affected. No lock change can guarantee the security of the entire property, because the door, frame and other access points also matter.
